Artist's Comments

This illustration was a commission for my aunt. She was very vague about what she wanted...a girl, not toverly frilly flowery, no animals, earthy and red tones.

Given so little direction, this turned into a rather personal piece. I'm not sure what the deep inner meaning is. My brother asked about it and I said she apparently has some kind of drainage problem and I guess she should stop pouring water on the floor.

This piece used a lot of stock photos both as direct reference and as inspiration, so thanks go out to :icongentlemansclubstock: for the vintage pinups, :iconmjranum-stock: for the architecture ref, and :iconlucy-eth-stock: and :icontdreams-stock: for the stained glass refs.
DA stock artists are awesome.

I really love the whole, the woman (I want to have the same dress!), the background, the colors, the concept *_*
Great work =)

Lovely job on the lighting in the fabric and the stained-glass windows!

HOW do you get that architecture so precise? Really spiffy!

Cheating! ;)
Well, sort of. I traced the perimeter outlines in photoshop, printed the outline as a guide, and then went to work with rulers and circle templates to fill in the details.

But using the outline from the photo reference is what makes it work - otherwise my proportions would be so off. I'm terribe at judging that sort of thing, and perspective is often a lost cause.

This is the original photo I used: [link]
